Hello! Welcome to Sign Pals

Connecting the UK BSL community

Who are we?

Sign Pals has been created to encourage new friendships in the UK BSL community.

We match Pals based on their hobbies and interests. Pals all use BSL and will use video call to get to know each other.

You might fancy chatting about your shared interests, you might want to try a new recipe, or exercise together. We look forward to seeing the creative ideas Pals come up with!

At the moment, this project is being coordinated voluntarily through the Coronavirus isolation period. We would love Sign Pals to continue beyond that, and we’ll be counting on your support to make this happen.

Who is it for?

Sign Pals is free for UK BSL-users. Our priority group to be matched are deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing BSL-users over 18.

However, please also apply if you are a hearing CODA or interpreter and wish to join in.

We will keep people informed of waiting times on social media.

What do I need?

You will need a device (phone, computer, laptop, tablet) with Skype or FaceTime access.

You will need reliable wifi connection, or data allowance to cover calls (we cannot cover costs).

How does it work?

Step 1

Complete application form, including short video of yourself

Step 2

We review your application

Step 3

We match and connect you with a Pal

Step 4

We keep in touch regularly to ensure you are happy

This is currently a short-term project, though we hope it will be extended. If it does not extend, we will provide guidelines to matched Pals on continuing their friendship.
