Our vision is a UK BSL community connected in unexpected ways, using the power of technology
Anna Storm - Director
Hello, I’m Anna, the Founder and Director of Sign Pals.
My previous work has been mostly in supported employment. I would support people with learning difficulties to look and find work, and then I would support them afterwards. This might include making applications to Access to Work, job coaching, supporting employers to make reasonable adjustments – really everything that is needed to ensure that the individual will be successful in sustained employment.
I’m deaf and grew up oral, going to mainstream schools. I learnt sign language later in life, when I was around 25. I was utterly captivated straight away, immersing myself completely in the Deaf world – it really had a massive, amazing impact on me.
Now I’ve set up and am running Sign Pals; it’s not been that long but I’m enjoying myself so far. I hope you will all like to get involved – thank you!
Andy Sherwood - Consultant
My name is Andy and I work with Anna at Sign Pals.
The Sign Pals project was set up because we believe there should be an essential service to support isolated deaf people, by matching them with new Pals online.
My other role in this project is to translate English text into BSL for our website and social media platforms.
Stay home and stay safe.
Sign Pals has been set up quickly and on a shoe-string, after the idea first came about at the start of the Coronavirus isolation period.
We wouldn’t have got this far without all the kind support from many people. Huge thanks to: David Buxton, Lynn Taylor-Stewart, Marcel Hirschman, Fifi Garfield, Helen Foulkes, Carolyn Denmkark, Clark Denmark, Peter Brown, Martin Glover, James Watson-O’Neill, Muna Ali, Austin Delaney, Ed Dench, Jennifer Sterrey, Alex Margescu and Ben Lakin. We really appreciate the time you’ve taken to support this.
Thank you also to everyone who has liked/followed/shared Sign Pals so far.
